about us

Songtweak let’s you discover new music in an active way

Rather than just relying on wisdom of crowds and formulas for recommendations, Songtweak provides you with a greater level of control so you can find more songs you like. It was built on the observation that people might love a song for different reasons. Therefore, all fans of the song might not necessarily like music recommendations based on that song. Even when the recommendations are good, it’s often nice to receive more.

How it works

tweak controls Whenever you get default recommendations based on a song you like, Songtweak provides you the opportunity to tweak them to fit your specific tastes. Let's say you really like the beat of a particular song and want suggestions that emphasize the beat more than other musical features of that song. Next to each list of suggestions is a 'tweakbox' to do just that. Simply raise the beat slider to emphasize beat similarity and click tweak to get songs with closer beats. Songtweak currently supports a variety of other tweakable features like instrumentation and aggressiveness.

We are just getting started, and we are constantly improving the tweak results. For example, there are lots of different musical properties that make up a song's beat. Our goal is to find the ones that best represent beat similarity, so that what you tweak matches what you hear. You can speed up improvements by voting on the results. Voting and other feedback might even lead to new features to add to the tweakbox.

Our Pool of Songs

Most songs we recommend have been gathered from the thousands of music blogs on the web. Music bloggers work hard to uncover great songs - new and old. Populating our service with these songs has led to a music discovery tool based on a pool of thousands of well-curated songs. We are continually indexing blogs each day to keep you on top of what music is being written about. If you are a blogger, artist, promoter, or fan with new music to share, simply contact us.
